W's Story
W is a boy of Aboriginal heritage. He was diagnosed from birth with Congenital Myotonic Dystrophy and has since been in foster care. This condition has made him legally blind and he needs to be manually fed through a tube. W also struggles with communication and has an intellectual delay due to autism. Despite these problems, W attends pre-school where he plays, makes music and develops bonds with the other children who help him throughout the day.
However, W requires a full-time trained aide to assist him when at pre-school. Thanks to Max e Grants W can remain in a mainstream pre-school. His teacher’s aide can now continue her care of W and keep building on the skills he has gained throughout the years at the pre-school. Without W’s aide in the classroom, W would not have the opportunities he currently has, in a pre-school where he continues to learn and thrive
