Kylie's Story

For most of Kylie's life her mum has been moving them around different refuges and support houses, wherever she could find them both shelter.

As a result, Kylie's school attendance has been poor and she has never attended the same school for a full year, making it difficult for her to maintain friendships with children her age. Kylie has also struggled in the classroom but she loves sport and being outdoors.

When Barnardos® learned about Kylie and her mum they moved quickly to find them a stable home and provide Kylie's Mum with needed support. With further help from Max e Grants Kylie was introduced to Sally, a successful business woman and a great role model and tutor to Kylie. As Kylie's confidence improved, so did her concentration and behaviour in class.

Max e Grants funding also allowed Kylie to get her first brand new uniform and backpack. Best of all she got to play sport. Kylie joined the netball team and little athletics. She got new shoes and gym gear. Kylie could not have been more proud when she won her first race. Kylie's mum and Sally were both there to cheer her on.
