Girl Guides Story
The “Girls on Track for Life” Program is targeted at 7 to 11 year-old girls from vulnerable families to give them life-skills, whilst building their self-esteem and self-confidence. Girls are specially selected on a needs basis, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds and unstable home lives, through to those lacking healthy self-esteem. This is a six week program run in schools by qualified Guide Leaders, in low socio-economic areas and is complimentary to the girls chosen to participate.
There have been numerous success stories to come out of the program, which has this year been supported through Max e Grants funding. By investing time and energy into engaging the girls through teaching life skills they might not otherwise have an opportunity to learn, a safer community has been created. Girls have learned to avoid peer pressure by having the confidence to say “no” to risky situations as well as saying “yes” to positive learning opportunities and friendships. Thanks to the Max e Grants program, 15 girls in South Australia have gained valuable life skills that will help them succeed now and in the future.
