C and J’s Story
C and J are twins, two of five Indigenous brothers raised by their single father. Their mother died when they were very young and they have since been in their father’s sole care. Unfortunately, their father has Diabetes and his debilitating condition has meant that he is often unable to work. The boys are often very apprehensive about their father’s health.
Despite their tough situation at home, the boys both have good attendance at school and are eager to participate in extra-curricular activities. C is a talented swimmer and was selected to go to their state’s swimming competition, but his father could neither organise transport to get C to the competition, nor could he afford to pay for this trip.
With the help and support of the Max e Grants program, C was able to participate in the swimming event and his twin brother J was able to go on another important school excursion, to Canberra. The boys also participated in school gymnastics and cross country. Without the funds from Max e Grants, the twins would not have been able to pursue their talents and create bonds with their other classmates outside of the classroom.
